How it is calculated

Use the same set of videos.

We add the likes and comments on the videos you enter, divide by those videos' views and multiply by 100: the share of viewers who reacted. Subscribers are not used, so this rate is not comparable with an Instagram rate. We have found no published YouTube figures by channel size that state their method, so none is shown.

Format & hook

Compare similar formats. The opening and the content give people different reasons to respond.

Timing & replies

Use a consistent set of posts. Allow time for people to watch and respond.

Niche & fit

An engagement rate cannot tell a brand whether the work fits its brief. Look at the portfolio too.

Before your first collab

Know what the rate can tell you.

What is a good engagement rate?

It depends on the method, audience size, niche and format. Use a sourced figure with the same formula for context. A rate does not promise reach or sales.

Do you store my numbers?

No. The calculation runs in this browser from the numbers you type. It does not look up an account or send your inputs.

Can I compare Instagram and YouTube rates?

These formulas use different denominators. Instagram uses followers and an average per post. YouTube uses views of the videos entered.
